Our Services
‘Ordinary People. Extraordinary Lives’
What We Do?
The aim for all our team members is the same- to identify realistic goals and aspirations to ensure young people in our care receive a service that ideally suited to their needs.
The supported living arrangements at our residential schemes are flexible and designed to give each person choice and control over their home and the way they live their life. YouthRise provides a baseline 24 hour on-site staff support, and then additionally each young person will have an individual support plan around their own person-centred needs with designated Key Worker.
YouthRise is an organisation dedicated to working with young people, who have grown up in care and are working towards living independently. The organisation is based on empowering young people and teaching them fundamental life skills to allow them to grow from their past experiences and gain independence. We are passionate about working closely with young people to help them feel prepared for adulthood, by assisting them in finding work placements, and to motivate them, and to provide them with the skills, to be a confident, positive and active member of their local community.
Alongside the daily enrichment we will provide to our young people, we understand that being physically active helps young people to better manage and improve their mental health. Therefore, we plan on providing a bi-weekly fitness programme designed to give our young people an active outlet. This will include different sporting activities, for example: boxing, swimming, gym sessions and yoga.
We aspire to:
- Develop the young person’s everyday living skills, including cooking, cleaning, and shopping; with the benefits of sport and physical activity.
- Support young person to maintain tenancies, including budgeting, maintaining homes, understanding and following the terms and conditions of tenancy agreements.
- Promote well-being by helping the young person access leisure activities and lifelong learning.
- Encourage the young person to access the local and wider community facilities.
- Facilitate relations so that the person can be a valued member of their community.
- Develop the young person’s independent travel skills where appropriate.
- Help the young person access employment and training.
- Apply for and obtain appropriate benefits.
Our Services
YouthRise is a mutual collaboration between the young person and the organisation. The service delivered is predicated on a shared understanding and partnership our roles and responsibilities we have to each other. The model of support we deliver can be summarised in the following 4 main areas:
Structured Programmes
YouthRise is developing a unique programme of regular sporting activities, such as traditional outdoor workouts, boxing classes and many others. We believe physical activity has a huge potential to enhance the mental and physical well being of the young people we support. By offering a regular routine of sport we aim to develop and encourage values of:
- Commitment
- Work ethic
- Pursuit of personal excellence
- Love of sport
- Team work
- Respect of self and others
- Humility
- Patience
- Perseverance
- Resilience
- Embrace failure
- Balanced life
We aim to make our sporting activities accessible to all levels and abilities. Exercise not only changes your body, it changes your mind, your attitude and your mood. At YouthRise we believe that your mental and physical health are inseparable.
Housing
YouthRise is well-informed about housing options available when young people are ready to leave us. Our Keyworkers support young people to make a Housing Register application for social or council housing, and help register with Homelink to access different types of social housing. We’ll also explain options like private rented or social housing during their Preparation for Independence programme.
Emotional Support
At YouthRise, it’s our goal to give young people a positive experience to carry over into their independent life. We understand that trust can be hard and they may have had to cope with lots of changes in their personal histories, so we endeavour to offer stable homes and consistent staff. We routinely celebrate ‘small steps’ and empower young people to help themselves, and they’ll always have a say. We support them to make and maintain healthy friendships, because a strong support network is vital to anyone living independently, whatever their age.
Mental Health
The emotional and mental well-being of our services users is our key priority at YouthRise. We make sure young people have an up-to-date health assessment and request psychological or psychiatric reports, family histories and social work assessments. We liaise with the designated nurse for looked after children. A Keyworker works with GPs and mental health services, recognise signs of mental health difficulties, respond to what the young person has to say and intervene early.
